Summary
Mr. Andy Tong, Vice President (Campus Development and Facilities) and Prof. Angelia Yuen, Vice President (Student and Global Affairs) officiated the luncheon to welcome Minister and his delegations to visit our campus and discuss the opportunities to strengthen the ties between PolyU and Sweden. Among the guests were Dr. Gloria Tam, Controller, Centre for Food Safety, The Government of Hong Kong SAR; Mr. Nicholas Brooke, Principal Advisor to the APEC Business Advisory Council, were also invited to exchange their views for partnerships with Hong Kong government and the region.
An exchange meeting and lab tour for delegates to highlight the university’s research excellence in food safety area which we have acquired a critical mass of faculty expertise, on-going private and public partnerships and innovative projects with substantive impacts were introduced.
The visit by Swedish delegates was an ideal opportunity to facilitate on-going conversations with Sweden, further to the joint centre of excellence in food safety – the DISH Global Centre for Food Safety which will see its launching on May 31, 2017 at the GoFood 2017 conference, the second edition of Global Food Safety & Technology Forum (GFSTF). DISH is a food safety technology development platform formed by Denmark, Italy, Sweden and Hong Kong to joint efforts in bringing world class technology solutions to address global food safety problems.
