Green IT Tips – Collaborate in the green way with new collaboration tool ‘Microsoft Teams’

When working on projects, we cannot avoid having meetings with project members and sharing various documents. We have to spend much time on finding meeting places as well as printing and circulating agenda, minutes and other related documents.

The Information Technology Services Office (ITS) has recently introduced a reliable alternative solution. This new collaboration service, Microsoft Teams, provides a chat-based workspace where team members can share ideas, documents and calendars as well as to hold discussion and make video calls, etc. for more efficient and greener collaboration.

Introducing the Microsoft Teams

Features of ‘Microsoft Teams’

  • Chat - It is a persistent chat workspace to store threaded conversations, either private chat with classmates/colleagues/guests or group chat among team members.
  • Conference Call - Audio/video conference and screen sharing are available.
  • Channel - A channel is a discussion topic in a team. You can create channels for different subjects, projects, etc.
  • Tab - Teams allows you to add Tabs to frequently used files on OneDrive document library, OneNote Online, SharePoint, etc. as well as other cloud services and external websites.

With this new service, staff and students can have video calls with project members (even non-PolyU users), group chat for project follow-ups and share electronic copies of project documents conveniently on a single platform. You can click here to visit ITS’s website for more details.
