Some public recycling bins are misused

A local green group conducted a two-day investigation in early August 2017 and found that the public waste-separation bins across Hong Kong were often misused. Less than 40% of the contents in the four-in-one recycling bins were actually recyclable items, and many items recognized as rubbish still appeared in the recycling bins. The waste paper section was often the most misused. Most of the items in the plastics and metals sections were not properly cleaned before disposal, running the risk of contaminating the entire bag of recyclables.

It was suggested that the government should step up public education and publicity so that effective recycling could be better promoted. More about this report could be read here.
