Acting Dean for FCE

Prof. Xiangdong Li, Director of PolyU’s Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development (RISUD) and Ko Jan Ming Professor in Sustainable Urban Development, has been appointed Acting Dean of the Faculty of Construction and Environment (FCE) from 7 September to 31 December 2020.

Funding from NSFC

7 scholars from the Faculty of Construction and Environment (FCE) have received funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) to support their research.

2020 Excellent Young Scientists Fund

The Faculty of Construction and Environment (FCE) is pleased to have two of its academics benefiting from the 2020 Excellent Young Scientists Fund, which was established by NSFC to encourage local young scientists to pursue excellence in basic research and research in cutting-edge technologies.

HK Scholars Programme 2020

6 academics from the Faculty of Construction and Environment (FCE) have been selected by the Hong Kong Scholars Programme (HKSP) 2020 to each engage a mainland scholar as a Postdoctoral Fellow in their research projects.

PolyU Postdoc Matching Fund Scheme 2020/21 (1st round)

The PolyU Postdoc Matching Fund Scheme 2020/21 has supported 11 academics in the Faculty of Construction and Environment (FCE) to each engage a postdoc fellow (PDF) in their research for 2 years.

FCE Start-up Fund for New Recruits

3 assistant professors have been awarded funding from the FCE Start-up Fund for New Recruits.

Tracking Coronavirus with a New Air-monitoring System

PolyU has developed an air-monitoring device that can identify high-risk areas for virus transmission or pollutants. The system assesses hazards in a given space and has an “airborne pathogen tracing/ dispersion” facility to simulate the spread of a virus.

  Webinar on Technologies in Tree Monitoring

Invited by the Tree Management Office of the government’s Development Bureau, Dr Charles Wong of the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics (LSGI) gave a webinar on 11 September 2020 on the application of remote sensing technologies in tree monitoring for over 130 government officials who work in tree management.

Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme

Under the auspices of the Hong Kong Research Grants Council, the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme provides a monthly stipend of HK$26,600 plus a travel allowance of HK$13,300 per year for attending conferences and research-related events for a maximum period of 3 years. On top of that, PolyU will extend the same provisions to those Fellowship awardees with a four-year normal study period*, in addition to a full waiver of tuition fees for the entire normal study period for all awardees of the HK PhD Fellowship. * required for full-time PhD students admitted on the basis of a Master’s degree without a significant research component or on a Bachelor's degree alone
