The PolyU JUPAS Consultation Day 2025, held on 24 May, was a great success, attracting many HKDSE candidates and their parents to the PolyU Business School (PBS) consultation counter. Visitors learned about PBS admission strategies and highlights from the nine majors we offer. They also spoke directly with our academic staff and learned about the experiential learning opportunities available at PBS. During the admission talk, a student from the School of Accounting and Finance shared his experiences from our exchange programme and from internships at various financial institutions.

For the second time, PBS recently attended the Dubai Fintech Summit 2025 in May. Our professors connected with industry leaders and attendees, creating exciting opportunities for future collaborations between Hong Kong and the Middle East.
A highlight of the summit was Dr Steven Wei, our Doctor of FinTech Deputy Programme Director. He spoke on a panel titled ‘Unlocking the Future of Fintech’, where he shared his unique insights on developing the next generation of fintech talent. Dr Wei's contributions resonated with the audience, emphasising the importance of education and innovation in shaping the future of the fintech industry.

After last year’s success, PBS is thrilled to bring back the Technology in Business Case Competition in 2025. This year’s competition offers two stages, with Stage 1 successfully completed on 25 April.
In Stage 1, over 60 participants immersed themselves in the transformative power of AI, gaining insights from PolyU’s leading professors and industry experts. Prof. Anthony Pang—Associate Head of the Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies and Scheme Leader of the BBS (Hons) Scheme in Global Business and Logistics, Aviation, Maritime, and Supply Chain Management—explained PBS’s role in promoting technology in business and gave an overview of the programmes that PBS offers. Dr Eddie Hui, Digital Innovations Lead of Lenovo Services and Solutions Group, discussed how AI is reshaping customer experiences and product innovation for smarter business results. Mr Andrew Keh from Sense Training showcased popular AI tools and demonstrated how they can be used to generate outputs that previously required substantial effort.
Participants explored cutting-edge AI tools such as GPT, Replit, and Cursor to create business websites tailored to customer needs.
Stage 2, scheduled for 5 and 6 July, will take participants deeper into how leading businesses are using technology advancements to make smarter decisions and achieve groundbreaking developments.

On 11 April, PolyU’s School of Accounting and Finance, via the Center for Economic Sustainability and Entrepreneurial Finance, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Newlink Technology Inc. (Newlink). This agreement kicks off a collaborative effort on research studies to advance fintech.
Under the MoU, PolyU and Newlink will explore a range of initiatives to foster collaboration and expand Newlink's network, especially in Hong Kong and across the Greater Bay Area. The two-year agreement focuses on combining scientific research with technology, jointly developing talent, and fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. This partnership is set to drive significant progress in fintech services and encourage the exchange of new ideas that could reshape the fintech industry.

On 8 Apr, we were honoured to host Mr Stephen Wong, Deputy Chairman of Ocean Park Hong Kong, for an insightful talk on the topic of ‘Ocean Park: Past, Future, and Its Role for Hong Kong’. The event connected industry practitioners from various fields with postgraduate students eager to learn how Ocean Park is navigating the challenges it faces and exploring new development opportunities.
Mr Wong discussed the numerous challenges that Ocean Park has encountered in recent years and how these challenges have shaped the park's strategic direction. He also highlighted the importance of leveraging the park’s geographical advantages to reposition it as a vital hub for wildlife conservation and education.
Mr Wong’s valuable insights sparked engaging discussion on ways to innovate that could shape both the future development of Ocean Park and the broader tourism sector in Hong Kong.

The Faculty of Business successfully hosted its first case competition on 5 April. This exciting event featured eight teams of four to five BBA students, who were tasked to develop innovative solutions for a real-life business case in the Greater Bay Area, developed by the Faculty of Business Case Consortium.
The Competition was a rewarding day filled with promising talent, creative ideas, and engaging Q&A sessions. Participants demonstrated exceptional analytical skills and teamwork, highlighting the high calibre of our students.

Students from the MBA and MSc in Business Management programmes recently visited four leading companies: the Airport Authority Hong Kong, SenseTime Group Limited, Sing Tao News Corporation Limited, and A & S Group (Holdings) Limited. These visits offered students an immersive experience, providing a full overview of each company’s operations, strategic goals, and industry challenges.
During the visits, students spoke directly with industry professionals. They gained firsthand insights into how their academic knowledge applies in practice and learned about the latest industry trends. They also explored potential career paths, broadening their understanding of opportunities across various sectors.
These company visits enriched students’ learning by connecting academic concepts with real-world business practices. This equipped them with valuable perspectives to prepare for careers in today’s changing business world.

The PolyU DBA Scholar Leaders Luncheon Series aims to promote the DBA programme and offer aspiring senior executives an opportunity to experience the vibrant DBA community.
During the two sessions held in January and March, DBA Programme Director Prof. Brian Kei introduced the DBA programme. Our experienced DBA thesis supervisor, Dr Vincent Cho, also presented his latest research, which focuses on m-commerce technology adoption and healthcare information system adoption. Our distinguished alumni, Dr Leon Lin, Founder and Chairman of Crescendo Greater China, and Dr Augusto King, Vice Chairman of MUFG’s Capital Markets Group, Asia Pacific, also shared their personal experiences, challenges, research efforts, and DBA learning journeys.
These events also attracted some of our MBA students. They gained invaluable knowledge and perspectives from our DBA alumni, which enriched their own academic pursuits.

On 21 January, PBS hosted an engaging ‘FB Don x CEO Luncheon’, bringing together industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and academic experts. They met to discuss key issues in blockchain, cybersecurity, and digital assets.
Prof. Jimmy Jin, our Assistant Dean (Fund-raising and Development), who also serves as the Director of the Centre for Business Technology & Innovations and Deputy Director of the OSL–PolyU FB Research Centre for Web 3.0 AI, explored the complex link between blockchain technology and cybersecurity. He revealed that putting blockchain into practice has unexpected two-sided implications and a dynamic impact on a firm’s cybersecurity. After his presentation, Prof. Mike Lai, our Associate Dean (Academic Support), led a Q&A session, encouraging active discussion among attendees. This event not only helped build valuable connections but also sparked forward-thinking ideas about blockchain technology and cybersecurity.

The Research Centre for Digital Economy, part of PolyU’s School of Accounting and Finance, has settled in the Hainan (Danzhou) Data Trading Hall. This move will foster in-depth research on digital trade in China.
The Data Trading Hall is a key component of the Yangpu Digital Bonded Zone in Danzhou, which is the first of its kind in Mainland China. The entire initiative is led by An He (Hainan) Digital Industry Holdings Co., Ltd.,
The Research Centre will focus on major trends in the digital economy, including data monetisation, data financialisation, data security, Central Bank Digital Currencies, and AI. Its goal is to explore new frontiers and offer insights that drive progress in the digital economy.

PolyU Outstanding Student Awards
This year, the PolyU Outstanding Student Award for the Faculty of Business goes to Zhu Xinyue of the School of Accounting and Finance. Xinyue is an exceptional scholar who has consistently achieved academic excellence. She has received multiple scholarships, including the HKSAR Government Scholarship for Outstanding Performance for three consecutive years, and PolyU’s President Emeritus Professor Poon Chung-kwong Scholarship, among others. Beyond her impressive grades, Xinyue has developed a strong foundation in business research and honed her leadership skills at PolyU. She particularly values her involvement in the Undergraduate Research and Innovation Scheme and the opportunity to present her findings at the PolyU Research Student Conference 2024. An exchange programme at the University of Cambridge further expanded her academic horizons and helped her forge valuable connections. Xinyue views this award as recognition of her ongoing development. She plans to pursue further studies in corporate finance research. |

Presidential Student Leadership Awards
Wang Fangyu of the School of Accounting and Finance was awarded the Presidential Student Leadership Award of the Faculty of Business 2024. This award recognises her exemplary leadership qualities and skills.
Bi Jiawei and Lee Ka Wa also received Presidential Student Leadership Awards for their respective departments: the Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies, and the Department of Management and Marketing.

Established in the 2022/23 academic year, the Presidential Student Leadership Award recognises students who have shown exceptional leadership both within the university and in the community.

Wang Haoqing of the Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies has been recognised as one of two PhD students to receive PolyU’s Best Research Postgraduate Student of the Year award. This prestigious award, established by PolyU’s Graduate School, celebrates an exceptional and inquisitive research postgraduate student who has made a significant impact on their peers and the broader research community. Haoqing’s research tackles critical challenges in maritime transportation. Her work focuses on improving operational efficiency, promoting sustainable shipping practices, and optimising port management. Ultimately, her contributions advance sustainable shipping, aligning with broader global sustainability goals and shaping the future of maritime logistics. |

The team of Chan King Ming Scott (BBA in Management, Year 6), Nayem Faridul Islam (BBA in Digital Finance and Investment, Year 2), Chow Kwan Ho (BBA in Accountancy, Year 2), and Trofeo Julio Raymundo Sanchez (BBA Scheme in Management and Marketing, Year 1) secured the second runner-up spot in the HSBC/HKU Hong Kong Business Case Competition 2025 on 8 March. This year’s case focused on the F&B sector, challenging participants to devise innovative strategies and solutions.
The student team’s outstanding achievements demonstrated their critical thinking skills and ability to apply their academic competencies and business know-how to address real-life challenges.

Our student teams earned four prestigious awards: Best Effective Solution Award, Best Innovative Solution Award, Best Team Work Award, and Best Time Control of Solution Award. The event featured a series of engaging workshops and presentation sessions. Participants also had an invaluable opportunity to visit Yamato Logistics (HK) Ltd., gaining firsthand insights into real-world logistics operations. Our talented teams tackled challenging business cases, showcasing their creativity, strategic thinking, and innovative solutions, and greatly impressed a panel of industry experts with their aptitude and professionalism.

Four BBA students from the School of Accounting and Finance—Cheng Meixuan, Wang Fangyu, Zhou Xinyue and Lee Kan On—proudly secured the second runner-up position at the Hong Kong Local Final of the CFA Institute Research Challenge 2024–25. The competition was held on 15 February. The CFA Institute Research Challenge is a globally recognised educational competition designed to cultivate best practices in investment research among aspiring financial analysts. Through mentorship and rigorous training in company analysis provided by faculty advisors and industry mentors, this competition offers participants invaluable hands-on experience, simulating the role of real-world research analysts.

Two teams of BBA students from the Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies achieved outstanding results in the 2025 Student Case Competition. One team secured first place, while the other earned the second runner-up position. The competition was hosted by DataDevelop, an APICS Premier Training Partner. Before the main competition, the student teams attended a half-day workshop organised by DataDevelop focusing on sustainable innovation for products made in Hong Kong. Following this, all competing university teams were challenged to develop business proposals as if they were entrepreneurs, emphasising innovative and sustainable strategies.
The students received their awards at a presentation ceremony on 11 June. The scholarship will enable them to participate in various local and overseas mentorship programmes, empowering them to pursue their dreams, and contribute meaningfully to society.

Three BBA (Hons) students specialising in Supply Chain Management and Analytics were honoured with the Best Student Award 2024 by the Hong Kong branch of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply. To receive this prestigious award, the students submitted their resumes along with insightful essays focusing on ‘AI Application in Procurement and Supply Chain’. They then demonstrated their knowledge during a panel interview that covered various aspects of the procurement and supply chain profession.
