Biography

I obtained my first degree in Construction Technology and Management at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana. I graduated with a First Class (Honours)and was adjudged the best student in the Department of Building Technology. Subsequently,I received the vice-chancellor’s award of excellence as the best student of the Faculty of Architecture and Building Technology(2011-2012). After fulfilling the one-year mandatory national service to the nation,I pursued an MPhil in Building Technology at KNUST. To enhance my industrial expertise,I worked as a quantity surveyor with a construction company and a consultancy firm after my MPhil degree.I applied for a scholarship for further studies and was awarded the most prestigious and competitive Hong Kong PhD Fellowship at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) where I am currently conducting my PhD study on sustainable housing. While conducting my study at PolyU, I served as vice  president of the CIB  student  Chapter (2019-2020). My research colleagues and I were the winners of the 2018-2019 CIB Sebestyen Future Leaders Award. Besides,with a different team,our group was the first runner up in a summer school competition on sustainable housing from the European perspective. This was organized by the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.

Area of Research

Developing a Model for Sustainable Housing in the Ghanaian Housing Market.

Research Scope

The Ghanaian housing market is dominated by self-builders. These self-builders form the informal sector of the housing market. However, in major cities such as Accra, real estate developers and some parastatal organizations also supply housing facilities.These institutions constitute the formal sector. Although the Government of Ghana makes strides to provide an enabling environment for the operation of most of the institutions from the formal sector, housing supply from these institutions is abysmally low (< 5%). As such, my PhD study focuses on the formal sector of the Ghanaian housing market to develop a model for sustainable housing. This could augment the effort of the informal sector in reducing the egregious housing deficit especially in Accra.

Research Methodology

To develop a model for sustainable housing, a quantitative research was adopted. Questionnaire survey was deployed for data
collection on critical success criteria (CSC), critical success factors (CSFs); critical risk factors (CRFs) and critical barriers (CBs) to sustainable housing. Data were garnered from respondents in the formal sector of the Ghanaian housing market.
Then, through the partial least square structural equation modelling(PLS-SEM), various models were first developed for
the CSC, CSFs and CBs. Besides, fuzzy synthetic evaluation (FSE) technique was used to model the impact of risk factors on sustainable housing and for developing a model for assessing sustainable housing. Findings of all the models were integrated to establish a model for sustainable housing in the Ghanaian housing market.

I participated in a summer school program on Sustainable Housing from the European Perspective. This program was organized by the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Netherlands.
