Website with a Language or Dialect Map

Description

A language map was developed based on the speech database (using only speech samples with permission for sharing with the PolyU community for teaching purposes). In the current stage, the map only included Cantonese recordings. Figure 1 is a screenshot of the language map webpage. The main component on the webpage is an interactive map that indicates the (rough) locations of the speakers (as shown by the position ofthe balloons). Users may move and zoom in/out the map using their mouse. When they mouseover a certain balloon, they will see the rough location ofthe speaker in a textbox (e.g. "Tai Po, New Territories"). Users may also choose which sentence they would like to hear (altogether 13 sentences in the Cantonese paragraph). When clicking on the balloon, the user will hear the speech of the chosen sentence by that particular speaker. The website is currently hosted on the department server, but will be made available to the PolyU community soon.
