: Enhancing Student's Learning Desire with the Development of Various Jigs and Fixtures Models
Virtual models and simulations of two physical models of jigs and fixtures for machining
Description
The functions of jigs and fixtures were simulated using Adobe Flash to animate their operational procedures.
Animation of the first fixture
Animation of the second fixture
Intended educational value
- Animations of structure and operation procedures will enhance students' understanding of jigs and fixtures better than CAD drawings
- The interactive activity can arouse the students' interest and improve their understanding on the use of jig and fixtures
Example of application
A simulation of assembly and operational procedure for jigs and fixturex were shown in a lecture, which is also available in WebCT.
Evaluation/Comments
A student survey showed the following results:
- More than two-thirds commented that the animation created by Flash was very helpful for improving their understanding of the functions and structures of jigs and fixtures.
- Nearly half of the students rated the activity as "Good" and recommended the laboratory activity for their studies.
- More than 85% thought this interactive laboratory activity enabled them to learn more easily about jigs and fixtures.
