Objectives:
- To introduce the basic concept of jigs and fixtures by using active elements (images and animations) for creative teaching purposes
- To design, construct and fabricate two sets of jigs and two sets of fixtures for various practical applications (e.g., machining, measuring and fabricating)
Remarks:
Feedback from students was collected through a questionnaire survey. The major findings were:
- More than 70% thought it was clearer to observe the actual jigs and fixtures instead of images.
- More than two-thirds considered the animation created by Flash to be very helpful for improving their understanding of the function and structure of the jigs and fixtures.
- Nearly half rated the lab activity as "Good" and recommended it for their studies.
- More than 85% of the students thought this interactive lab activity enabled them to learn more easily about jigs and fixtures.
