: An Interactive Outcome-Based Learning Approach for Visual Merchandising
Description
This platform is developed to organize and visualize ideas that pop up in students’ mind during the creating process. Students can insert their own ideas in images like jpg format to the default window display template. During the idea generation process, students can change the size of the window and insert different images to design their window displays. Once they have completed the idea visualization process, they can save the work and make changes anytime in the future. In such a way, students can keep on changing their ideas until they come to perfect. It saves time from building up the mock window displays, which are expensive and inefficient.
Intended Educational Value
A number of window displays have been developed, commented, categorised and uploaded to the virtual image library. When students receive an assignment topic, they can login to the library, go into related category and read the comments left by the instructor. In such a way, they are able to understand important pointes for particular topics. At the end, most of the design problems can be resolved. The online library also serves as a communication platform between students for them to comment on other students’ works and keep the conversation going. This enables them to learn from their peers.
Evaluation/ Comments
Positive feedback was received from the students on how the virtual visual merchandising platform and the image library facilitated their ideas generation process. They commented that they were especially helpful in group work as they helped visualise the idea immediately at the initial stage and group members could decide whether or not to continue with that idea. If they doubted about their idea, they could go back and make changes.
