International Collaboration

Description

This project consolidated the liaison with the Quality Supervision group in Australia, which runs an ongoing series of courses on workplace supervision with ten core health care professionals from La Trobe University, Monash University and Deakin University.

Dr Helen Edwards, a member of the group, worked as an advisor for the project. She visited the project team in early February 2008 and helped in running a seminar on “Applied Learning – Challenges and Rewards”. She was also involved in planning a mentoring course and preparing a journal article about the clinical supervisors’ course run by the team.

Dr Janice McKay worked as a Principal Project Fellow for the project till late March 2007. After she had left the Project Team, she worked as an Advisor for the project and visited the team in late September and late November 2007. She jointly ran an Applied Profession-Related Integrated Learning (APRIL)/ Work-Integrated Education (WIE) seminar with Dr Jonas Nordquist on “Aligning Generic Learning Outcomes, Assessments and Curriculum for Work-based Learning in late November 2007. She was also involved in planning a mentoring course and preparing the journal article about the clinical supervisors course; and she has run another clinical supervisors course overseas in Curtin University of Technology. With her help, the Project Team is formalizing future collaboration with Curtin University of Technology, Australia.

The project strengthened its liaison with the Medical Case Center of the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden in the area of case-based learning. Dr Jonas Nordquist, Director of the centre, worked as an advisor for the project. He visited the Project Team in late November 2007 and ran a 1 ½ day workshop on case development and assessment. He also hosted an APRIL/WIE seminar together with Dr. Janice McKay. Dr. Nordquist and his colleague, Linda Johansson will continue to provide assistance to the faculty to develop online cases for interprofessional case-based learning.
