Description

• This is a collection of case studies published in the form of a book which documents "the design process" involved and methods used to produce creative solutions .
• Six student designers share their experiences of the design process – how they got started, what motivated them, where they found inspiration, the difficulties they had to overcome, and the techniques that led them to success in their final projects. Specialist tutors add their responses to every outcome.

Intended educational value

This book is intended for use as a teaching-and-learning tool to inspire thinking. It supports student learning directly as a reference resource for design students who are carrying out their own projects. 

Example of application

The book was disseminated at the 2008 Design Ed Asia Conference on 9 December 2008, and is now available for purchase by students in the School of Design and Page One bookshops in Hong Kong.  
 

Evaluation/Comments

The book is useful not only for design students and faculty members as a resource for learning and teaching but also helps to reassure employers in Hong Kong that PolyU School of Design (SD) graduates are creative individuals, with a solid foundation in independent thinking, and the discipline and motivation needed for high performance in professional practice. This book also enhances SD’s leading position in international design education.
