Call for Learning to Learn Student Proposals

~ a chance to turn your idea into a product to help other students learn better ~

Guidelines ※

Introduction

The Educational Development Centre (EDC) is now inviting proposals on tools/ resources to help students learn effectively independently and continuously. Up to five proposals will be selected and funded for development and production based on the selection criteria (see below). Students of the selected proposals will have at least four months (late-December 2023 - April 2024) to develop and produce the tools/ resources. Their tools/ resources will have a chance to win a prize. 


Objectives

  • Collect ideas on learning tools/ resources that can help students learn better
  • Develop learning tools/ resources that can help students learn better
  • Encourage students to unleash their potential and talent
  • Create a community of sharing and helping each other 


Eligibility

Only PolyU undergraduate students can participate in this event.


Budget

  • Each selected proposal will receive up to $3,000 to support the production and development of the idea.
  • Students of the selected proposals will be paid at the student assistant rate (HK$80 per hour) for no more than 200 hours for the entire period to develop the tool/ resource.


Submission procedures

  1. Complete and submit the proposal form [link].
  2. Make sure the idea addresses the selection criteria.
  3. Feel free to attach images or videos to the proposal to elaborate the idea.
  4. Make sure the timeline is within the project period (late-December 2023 - April 2024) and the budget is within HK$3,000.


Submission period

The submission period starts now until 23:59, 24 November 2023.


Selection criteria

1. Project scope and manageability

  • The project leader is able to manage and complete the project within the period.

2. Relevance of the tool/ resource to Learning to Learn

  • The tool/ resource to be developed must address at least one of the learning-to-learn skills or topics (refer to the L2L model for more information)

 3. Design and application of the tool/ resource

  • The tool/ resource to be developed is well-designed for the purpose and easy to use for most students.

4. Generability of the tool/ resource

  • The tool/ resource to be developed is applicable to most students and most disciplines.

5. Sustainability of the tool/ resource

  • The tool/ resource to be developed can be maintained and/or (re)produced without a cost or at a low cost.


Support for selected proposals

  • Consultation on the design and content
  • Technical support on programming


Competition

The tools/ resources to be developed will be displayed for public voting in May 2024. The one which receives the most votes will win a prize.

 
Experience sharing

The project leaders of the selected proposals do not need to submit a project report but a self-reflection in no more than 300 words to share their experiences and insights.
