BOLT INNOVATIONS

IMPLEMENTING LEARNING INNOVATIONS WITH BOLT

During the 8 stages of BOLT Innovations you will work towards producing a Learning Innovation Plan, in which you design and implement a teaching and learning innovation that harnesses a blended and/or online approach to learning and teaching. You will also evaluate your innovative approach to measure its effectiveness in and present your findings to your peers.

By the end of BOLT Innovations you will be able to:

  • Implement a novel learning and teaching intervention based on blended and online learning approaches, tools and techniques
  • Report on student feedback on the intervention
  • Critically evaluate the intervention and its impact in your teaching and learning context

To join BOLT Innovations you must first complete the BOLT Course or the BOLT Flipped Classroom SPOC (online version of the BOLT Course). Alternatively, you can complete the SPOC in parallel with BOLT Innovations.

Watch the video below to find out about BOLT Innovations, the second part of BOLT Staff Development - implementing Blended & Online Learning & Teaching.

BOLT SMALL PRIVATE ONLINE COURSE (SPOC)

A FLIPPED CLASSROOM APPROACH

This Small Private Online Course (SPOC) from the BOLT team is designed to increase teachers’ knowledge and skills around applying a flipped classroom approach to learning and teaching. The course takes you through the essentials of learning and teaching online through engaging videos, collaborative activities and more.

During the six units you work towards producing a Learning Innovation Plan, in which you design a teaching and learning innovation that harnesses a flipped approach. Get feedback from our course tutors to help with your learning design and support from our Case Study video series in which a colleague works though his flipped classroom innovation with the support of the BOLT team.

By the end of the BOLT Flipped Classroom SPOC you will be able to:

  • Describe a flipped classroom approach to learning and teaching
  • Critically evaluate a flipped approach and appropriate techniques and tools
  • Apply a flipped approach, techniques and tools to your own teaching and learning context.

This BOLT Flipped Classroom SPOC is an alternative to the blended BOLT Course that we run at PolyU in Semester 1 each year, and is also a pre-requisite for BOLT Innovations.

The BOLT Course, BOLT Flipped Classroom SPOC and BOLT Innovations can be studied sequentially or independently. BOLT staff development is designed for faculty members with different levels of online learning experience, ranging from novices to more experienced practitioners.
