PolyU staged a torch-relay on its campus on 10 November to show support for the 2009 East Asian Games and to mark the 25 days countdown for the Games which will begin on 5 December.

The countdown ceremony began with the passing of torch by Mr Tsin Yan-pui, Head of School Programme and Cultural Night of the 2009 East Asian Games (HK) Ltd, to PolyU Vice President Prof. Ko Jan-ming. Other torch bearers included PolyU Council Member Dr the Hon. Lam Tai-fai, PolyU Court Chairman Dr Roy Chung, PolyU Dean of Students Prof. Arthur Mak, President of Students’ Union Mr Winston Leung, and student athletes. Details >>

In addition, PolyU’s Faculty of Health and Social Sciences (FHSS) and the Hong Kong Jockey Club Sports Medicine and Health Sciences Centre pledged their support to the 2009 East Asian Games at a special ceremony held on 4 November. Both parties will provide professional physiotherapy and vision assessment services for all participating athletes of the different countries/territories during the Games.

Officiating at the ceremony were Mrs Carrie Yau, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr Johnny Woo, Chief Executive Officer of 2009 East Asia Games (Hong Kong) Limited, Professor Thomas K.S. Wong, PolyU Vice President (Management), Professor George Woo, Dean of FHSS, and Professor Gabriel Ng, Deputy Director of The Centre. Details >>
