Co-developed by Prof. Tam Hwa-yaw, Prof. Ho Siu-lau and Dr Michael Liu Shun-yee from Photonics Research Centre and the Department of Electrical Engineering of PolyU, a system named “Wavelength-Tunable Laser with Fiber Bragg Grating Sensing Network for Railway Monitoring” was recently awarded second-runner up of the “Berthold Leibinger Innovationspreis” - a biennial award to honour outstanding research and development in laser technology. The winning project involved the breakthrough in using laser and fibre-optic sensors for applications in railing monitoring and real-time data analysis.
