Legislation was enacted to change the name of the Institution to “The Hong Kong Polytechnic University”.
1995
Founding of the Federation of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Alumni Associations.
Implementation of the first Strategic Plan for the period 1995–2001. The Plan was the first ever formulated by local tertiary institutions.
Establishment of the International Strategic Technology Alliance (ISTA) as a network to promote applied research and collaboration and to facilitate technology transfer on an international scale.
Formation of the University Court, which is the supreme advisory body to the Council.
1996
Establishment of the PolyU Technology & Consultancy Company Ltd (PTeC), a not-for-profit service arm of the University to offer professional services for business and industry.
Launch of the territory's first Doctor of Business Administration programme.
Establishment of the PolyU (Western Canada) Association as the University's first networking body for graduates and past employees residing overseas.
1997
Launch of the 'Preferred Graduate' Development Programme. This summer internship programme enables students to gain valuable workplace exposure. The programme has since expanded to cover employers and organizations worldwide.
The first Outstanding PolyU Alumni Awards were presented.
Establishment of the first mainland training outpost in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. Since then, the University has also set up outpost centres in Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Xi'an and Wuhan.
1999
Establishment of the PolyU (Eastern Canada) Association.
Establishment of the School of Professional Education and Executive Development (SPEED) to foster lifelong education.
2000
Promulgation of the University Motto and Statement of Vision, Mission and Values.
Inauguration of the Institute for Enterprise (IfE) to strengthen self-financing professional services for business and industry.
Co-founded the Hong Kong CyberU, Hong Kong's first virtual university, with Pacific Century CyberWorks.
