The history of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University can be traced as far back as 1937, when the Government Trade School was founded. As a result of its steady growth, the School became Hong Kong Technical College after World War II, with its new campus opened in Hung Hom in 1957. It further evolved into the Hong Kong Polytechnic in 1972, which acquired university status in 1994.
