Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computer Science

BSc (Hons) in Computer Science graduates can become programmers, system developers, software engineers, sales engineers or webmasters. Our graduates find employment opportunities in sectors such as the government, software houses, e-commerce, banking, finance, public facilities and freight forwarding.

The BSc (Hons) in Computer Science programme has been granted accreditation by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). Graduates can become members of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). Those with appropriate work experience can become professional members of the ACM Hong Kong Chapter and enjoy the right to vote for the LEGCO IT functional constituency representative. Graduates can also join the IEEE Computer Society Hong Kong Chapter and be entitled to vote for the IT functional constituency representative.

In PolyU 2022 Graduate Employment Survey, the average starting salary of our graduates reached HK$22,956 which is the highest in the Faculty of Engineering. To further strengthen students’ employability, COMP has introduced an internship option, allowing students to gain up to 32 weeks full-time working experience while still graduating in four years.

As computing plays an important role in all businesses, our graduates started their career in a wide range of areas, such as IT, FinTech, Healthcare, Government, Logistics, Business Services, Telecom, Digital Marketing, Multimedia and Entertainment, etc. In other words, studying computing allows students to develop their career in many different business sectors.
