HKSQxCOMPxSGS Seminar on AI Governance using ISO/IEC 42001
On 24 March 2025, our department co-organised a seminar on AI Governance using ISO/IEC 42001 with the Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) and SGS, a global leading testing, inspection and certification company. The event introduced the ISO/IEC 42001 framework, highlighting how industries can ensure responsible, ethical, and accountable AI deployment.
COMP’s lecturer, Dr Lotto LAI, started the seminar with an overview of the revamped BSc (Hons) Scheme in Computing and AI, highlighting updates to the computing ethics course and showcasing student projects on AI safety.
Mr Chris YAU, Deputy Director at SGS Hong Kong Limited, discussed AI risks and expectations of AI. He also introduced a trustworthy AI system and the definition of different terms of AI.
Ms Natalie LAW, Senior Certification Officer at SGS Hong Kong Limited, explained the roles used in the standard, which were AI producer, AI provider and AI user. She briefed on the significance of AI system impact assessments, illustrating how AI risks can affect multiple stakeholders.
The seminar provided valuable insights into best practices for AI governance and risk management in the industry.
