On the morning of February 5, 2026, Dr. E Deng, Mr. Huan Yue, Mr. Jian Wang, and Mr. Shang-Qi Zhou from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University visited the Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) for an in-depth exchange and discussion on the progress of wind environment research in the Northern Metropolis. Attendees included Mr. Edwin Tang, Mr. Kelvin So, Mr. Johnny Yip, and Dr. May Wang from BTRi; Mr. Samuel Ko and Mr. Jason Wong from the Development Bureau's Project Strategy and Governance Office; Ms. Lina Chan and Mr. Yam Kwok Kit from the Buildings Department; Prof. Tim K.T. Tse from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; and Dr. Xiao-Ye Yu from Arup. During the meeting, Dr. Xiao-Ye Yu provided a detailed introduction to the classification of land categories in the Northern Metropolis and the wind profile studies for different land categories. Subsequently, Mr. Shang-Qi Zhou elaborated on the Monte Carlo typhoon simulation method, including the typhoon generation model and a simplified typhoon wind field reconstruction model, and presented the results analysis and conclusions. Mr. Jian Wang then introduced the proposed installation sites for the new LiDAR in the Northern Metropolis, as well as the comparative analysis results of LiDAR monitoring data during Typhoon Ragasa. Following the presentations, all participants engaged in a lively discussion and clarified the direction for the next phase of research.
