HKIE Best Transactions Paper Prize 2013 for Dr. Linda Fan and Ms Angel Law

Congratulations to Dr Linda Fan and Ms Angel Law on winning 'The HKIE Best Transactions Paper Prize 2013'. Their paper 'An Assessment of Moral Judgment of Construction Professionals in Hong Kong' is now published in HKIE Transactions Vol 19 No 3. Good Job!

BRE Student Winning the HKIS Dissertation/Thesis Awards for Postgraduate Students

In the dissertation/thesis awards for postgraduate students 2013 organized by the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS), one alumni of the Department of Building and Real Estate (BRE) was rewarded for her final year dissertation announced on 11 October 2013. In the Master of Science (MSc)'s degree category, a full-time MSc in Construction and Real Estate 2013 graduate with distinction, Miss Liu Yumeng (劉雨濛), Helen received the Grand Prize Award for her empirical study of the relationship between safety climate and safety performance of new construction projects in Mainland China, with particular reference to the city of Shanghai. She was supervised by her programme leader, Dr Daniel W.M. Chan, Associate Professor of BRE. The purpose of the awards aims to promote research and to reward the efforts of the students. The awards were based on merits in the research contribution to the industry, innovation and application to the surveying profession. Each winner received an award certificate and a prize cheque of HK$1,000 at the HKIS Dissertation/Thesis Awards Presentation Ceremony and Cocktail Reception on 17 March 2014.

Congratulations to HKPolyU CIB Student Chapter on winning the first prize of the 6th Innovation Competition in Construction and Management in Beijing in early July 2013!

Congratulations to HKPolyU CIB Student Chapter on winning the first prize of the 6th Innovation Competition in Construction and Management in Beijing in early July 2013.The competition is organized by the Tsinghua University and sponsored by the Gammon Construction Company Limited. There were in total 32 teams from Mainland China and Hong Kong to compete in this event. Amongst the 12 teams being shortlisted in the first round, our PolyU Team ranked second, and they eventually got the championship at final round of this competition. Title of the Team’s submission is called: “A Carbon Neutral SOFC (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell) –Based Multi-generation System for Building Application”.

Good Job, Cheung King Wai Earning ‘Innovation & Technology Scholarship Award Scheme 2013’

 Bravo! Our student, Cheung King Wai (BSc (Hons) in Building Engineering and Management Programme, Year 2) got the Innovation and Technology Scholarship Award Scheme 2013(HK$150,000-). This Scheme aims giving public recognition to remarkable undergraduates in universities in Hong Kong and chances of enhancing their international/Mainland exposure and earning relevant industry experience. Through a very strict selection in terms of language, communication skill, academic achievement, passion, participation in extra-curricular and community service activities etc, King Wai is one of the awardees this year. Good Job, King Wai!

BRE Student Winning CIOB(HK) Outstanding Student Awards (2012-13)

 In the Outstanding Student Awards (2012-13) organized by the Chartered Institute of Building (Hong Kong), one alumni of the Department of Building and Real Estate (BRE) was rewarded for her final year dissertation announced on 12 August 2013. Under the bachelor degree category, Miss Wong Wai Ming was one of the three prize winners with her empirical study of evaluating the effectiveness of Safety Partnering Programme (SPP) in improving construction site safety in Hong Kong. She was a full-time surveying degree graduate in June 2013 and was supervised by Dr Daniel W.M. Chan, Associate Professor of BRE. The primary goals of these awards are to promote excellence in project management in construction and to recognize students with outstanding academic achievements. The awards were based on the quality of student’s own work for final year project/dissertation completed in the academic year 2012-13, the contents of which should be focused on the pertinent aspects of construction project management. The winner received an award certificate and a prize cheque of HK$4,000 at the CIOB(HK) 40th Anniversary Dinner 2013 held on 27 September 2013 at Hotel Nikko.

BRE MSc Student Winning the HKIE-SSC Student Dissertation/Project Competition Awards 2013

 One alumni of the Department of Building and Real Estate (BRE) was rewarded for her final-year dissertation during the Student Project Competition Awards 2013organized by the Safety Specialist Committee (SSC) of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). Under the Master Degree Group, a full-time MSc in Construction and Real Estate 2013 graduate with distinction, Miss LIU Yumeng (劉雨濛), Helen was the Champion-Towngas Award for her empirical study of the relationship between safety climate and safety performance of new construction projects in Mainland China, with particular reference to the city of Shanghai. She was supervised by her programme leader, Dr Daniel W.M. Chan (陳煒明博士), Associate Professor of BRE. The competition aimed at promoting safety and health in engineering and science regime; and providing an open and competitive platform for engineering students to demonstrate their engineering capabilities and share the learning process in safety and health regime. The Champion winner received an award certificate and a cash coupon of HK$2,000 during the HKIE-SSC Annual Dinner 2013-2014 launched on 10 January 2014 at the YMCA Hotel, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong.
