ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION

Miss Wong Sze Pui, a year two student in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, has been awarded an HSBC Overseas Scholarship 2012/13 to study at Cornell University for semester 1 and 2 of the 2012-13 academic year.

PolyU Swimming Team was the overall champion (and also women’s champion, and men’s first runner up) at the 49th USFHK Annual Aquatic Meet on 28 October 2012. Among the athletes were 5 students from the SHTM. These students are:

  • Miss Cheng Hei Tung, Heather, Year 1 student of the HD in Hotel Management
  • Mr Kong Kei Koi, Year 1 student of the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management
  • Miss Lee Sin Tung, Lorraine, Year 1 student of the BSc(Hons) in Tourism Management
  • Mr Ng Yan Ho, Year 3 student of the BSc(Hons) in Tourism Management
  • Miss Wong Cheuk Ying, Elaine, Year 2 student of the BSc(Hons) in Convention and Event Management

Professor Cathy Hsu and Ms Louisa Lee, a 2012 graduate of the Master of Philosophy in Hotel and Tourism Management programme, received the Best Paper Award for their paper entitled "An Exploratory Study on Hong Kong and Mainland Chinese Gaming Behavior in Macau Casinos" at the 1st Asia-Pacific Conference on Gambling and Commercial Gaming Research in Macau on 5-8 November 2012. Ms Lee was also awarded the Student Conference Scholarship, covering five nights of accommodation during the conference.

Dr Rosanna Leung, a 2012 graduate of the Doctor of Philosophy in Hotel and Tourism Management programme, received 2nd prize in the IFITT Thesis Excellence Award in 2013 for her thesis entitled "Human Factors in Website Usability and Aesthetics: Theory and Applications to Hotels in Hong Kong". The award will be presented at the ENTER 2013 conference in Innsbruck, Austria on 22-25 January 2013.
