ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION

Professor Kaye Chon was elected to the Executive Board of Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) for two years, with effect from April 2012.

Ms Mak Wai-kwan, Amy, a 2011 graduate of the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, won the J. Desmond Slattery Undergraduate Student Research Award based on her final year project paper entitled “Corporate Social Responsibility Practices in Four & Five Star Hotels in Hong Kong: Perspectives from Hong Kong Visitors”. The award was presented at the 2012 Travel and Tourism Research Association International Annual Conference held in Virginia, USA on 17-19 June 2012.

Mr Li Chun-lok, Gary and Ms Chan Yi-ching, Liz, year-two students in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, received Manuel Woo Awards for Excellence at a presentation ceremony on 21 June 2012, recognising their academic achievement and their eagerness to pursue careers in the hospitality industry after graduation.

Mr Alvin Lee, a 2011 graduate of the Master of Science in Hotel and Tourism Management programme, and Ms Carol Lee, a 2011 graduate of the BSc(Hons) in Tourism Management programme, won a 2-week study trip to Cairns organised by SKAL International. The two young SKAL members represented SKAL Hong Kong in the 2-week programme from 24 June to 7 July 2012.

Dr Jinsoo Lee, Dr Steve Pan, Dr Henry Tsai and Dr Nelson Tsang received a Best Paper Award for their paper entitled "Examining Structural Relationships between Casino Quality, Image, Value and Loyalty: The Case of Macau" at the 18th Asia Pacific Tourism Association Annual Conference in Taipei, Taiwan on 26-29 June 2012.

A team of four SHTM students from the BSc(Hons) programme, Ms Vivian Hung, Ms Vivian Lee, Mr Kion Chan and Ms Kiki Go won the First Prize in a global students competition in writing and presenting a proposal to organise a major international convention at the Seoul Youth MICE Challenge of Korea MICE Expo 2012 in Seoul, Korea on 3-5 July 2012.

Dr Honggen Xiao, two SHTM Ph.D. students Mr Eddy Tukamushaba and Mr Dan Musinguzi received a Best Paper Award for their paper entitled "Modeling Service Quality Improvement Priorities in Selected Hotels for Efficient Service Delivery" at the 2012 TOSOK International Tourism Conference in Ulsan, Korea on 4-6 July 2012.
