Executive Education Essential in Disseminating Knowledge

Vital to the SHTM's role as a centre of excellence is its ability to disseminate cutting-edge knowledge to the hospitality and tourism industry around the world.

From April to August 2010, a series of executive education programmes are being organised for the senior management of the China Jin Mao Group by the SHTM and the PolyU's Chinese Mainland Affairs Office. The details of the lectures are as follows:

  • 16-17 April – "Hotel Service Quality Management" by Professor Kaye Chon
  • 14-15 May – "Hotel Human Resources Management" by Dr Alan Wong
  • 18-19 June – "Hotel Financial Management" by Dr Henry Tsai
  • 16-17 July – "Hotel Investment and Financing" by Dr Henry Tsai
  • 13-14 August – " Hotel Marketing Management" by Professor Cathy Hsu

In a Memorandum of Understanding with the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority signed last November, the SHTM agreed to collaborate on developing educational strategies to share best practices and research findings with local industry stakeholders. Three seminars for hospitality industry practitioners in Abu Dhabi will be held between May and November 2010:

  • 13 May – "Opportunities and Challenges of Travel Agency Business" by Dr Barry Mak
  • 22 September – "Growing your share of the MICE Business" by Dr David Jones
  • 3 November – "Managing Diversity in the Hospitality Workplace" by Dr Simon Wong

As part of the effort to cope with the rapid pace of tourism development in Hainan, the SHTM was asked to run a series of executive education programmes for employees of the Horizon Resort and Spa in Sanya from 23 to 25 June 2010. The details are as follows:

  • "Communication Skills for the Hotel Industry" by Dr Barry Mak
  • "Time Management" by Dr Tony Tse
  • "Handling Problems and Conflicts" by Dr Catherine Cheung
  • "Challenges and Reflections for Hotel Marketing" by Dr Barry Mak
  • "Hotel Sales Management" by Dr Qu Xiao
  • "Hotel Marketing and Promotion" by Dr Tony Tse
