Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development inaugurated

On 14 June, the Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development (RISUD) at PolyU was officially opened. Through research and knowledge transfer activities, consultancy services and professional training, the RISUD is committed to multi-disciplinary collaborations to address urban planning and environmental issues.

Led by its Director Prof. Teng Jin-guang and Associate Director Prof. Li Xiang-dong, the RISUD comprises 26 research groups which are organized into five divisions: (1) Urban Planning and Management; (2) Urban Infrastructure; (3) Urban Environment; (4) Digital Technology in Urban Development; and (5) Building Energy and Environmental Performance.

Officiating at the inauguration ceremony were Dr Qiu Baoxing, Vice Minister of the Central Government’s Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Mr Wong Kam-sing, Secretary for the Environment of the HKSAR Government, Prof. Timothy W. Tong, PolyU President, Dr Andrew Chan ka-ching, Chairman of International Advisory Committee of RISUD, and Prof. Teng Jin-guang, RISUD Director. PolyU Council Chairman Ms Marjorie Yang also extended her congratulations through a video message.

The inauguration ceremony was followed by a series of seminars and workshops, including Dr Qiu Baoxing’s keynote speech on “Challenges of Urbanization in China”. Details>>
