English specialists receive research grants and award

 

 

 

Prof. David Qian awarded research grants

Prof. David Qian of the Department of English has been awarded the 2012-2013 LTTC-GEPT Research Grants by the Language Training and Testing Centre (LTTC) in Taiwan, for the project entitled “A Register Analysis of Advanced General English Proficiency Test (GEPT) Examinees' Written Production”. He is one of the two recipients of the grants in this open global competition, and the funding for his project is HK$250,000.
 
The grants are intended to assist external researchers in conducting quality research on topics related to GEPT so as to further enhance the reliability and validity of the test.  GEPT targets English learners at all levels in Taiwan.

PhD student awarded Junior Fullbright Fellow

Mr Ernest Pan Mingwei, PhD student at the Department of English (Chief Supervisor: Prof. David Qian; Co-Supervisor: Prof. Christian Matthiessen) has recently been selected Junior Fulbright Fellow.  He will spend his 2012/13 fellowship year at the University of Illinoise at Urbana-Champaign in the US, under the mentorship of Prof. Fred Davidson. His thesis is about language testing.
