Two teams from PolyU’s School of Design (SD) recently shared the championship of the 2011 Hong Kong Social Enterprise Challenge, outsmarting 180 teams from 22 local institutions. The winning projects are:

  1. Woof – use Chiengora, animal fibres from doggies, to make fashion and accessories. This initiative is to awake human compassion and empathy on animals.

Team Leader: Anita Lam Mun-yee (SD student)
Members: Amy Chan Hiu-nam (Hong Kong Baptist University student) and Margaret Lok (SD graduate)
Advisor: Mr Rémi Leclerc of SD

  2. Oops! – transfer surplus and wasted building materials from the interior design industry. The materials can then be used by visual arts students in secondary schools for creative purposes.

Team Leader: Joyce Chu Yin-chi (SD student)
Members: Keziah Law Ka-pui, Irix Leung Cheuk-nga and Wong Ka-ki (SD students)
Advisor: Mr Patrick Chan Kai-ching of SD

In addition, the final-year project of SD fresh graduate Winnie Ngai Si-man won the Asia Social Innovation Award – Best Multi-media Award. Her project, “Beecycle”, is a concept to collectively generate electricity and provide energy through cycling. The project aims to promote communal activity and bring positive contribution to the living environment. Details>>
