PolyU welcomes visit of MIT Provost

Prof. L. Rafael Reif, Provost of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), paid a visit to PolyU on 27 March, and he was warmly received by Council Chairman Ms Marjorie Yang and President Prof. Timothy Tong.

After a brief meeting with the Council members, senior management and student representative of the University, Prof. Reif, accompanied by Vice President (Research Development) Prof. Alex Wai, visited several research centres and facilities at PolyU, including the House of Innovation, Industrial Centre, Lo Ka Chung Centre for Natural Anti-Cancer Drug Development, PolyU-KCRC Smart Railway Research Laboratory and Specialty Optical Fiber Fabrication Laboratory.

During the visit, Prof. Tong introduced PolyU’s teaching and research features to Prof. Reif, and together with the University’s senior management, they exchanged views on the development of higher education both locally and globally. They then attended a dinner specially prepared by our students of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management.

On 28 March, Prof. Reif and Prof. Tong met with Shenzhen mayor Dr Xu Qin, who is also an alumnus of PolyU. Dr Xu introduced to Prof. Reif the development of education in Shenzhen and they shared views on enhancing collaboration in the future.
