PolyU student wins fur design competition

Computing graduate scoops another award

Fashion design student Miss Natalie Yau Yim-fun was recently named the overall winner of the Hong Kong Fur Design Competition 2010 (Full Fur Category). Her prizes included a trophy with a cash award of HK$5000; a one-week fur design course at the Saga Design Centre in Copenhagen, Denmark; and a six-day study side trip to one of the fashion capitals in Europe.

Natalie’s design was themed around “Evolutionism” and she tried to deliver the message that “positive thinking makes everything better”. Her inspiration came from the fact that human beings are constantly evolving and progressing, not only in appearance, but also in inner soul.

The winning design is a poncho with a floral pattern under the collar, combining with irregular mink fringes and ruffles. The mink fringes signify pre-evolution; the ruffles represent evolving and progressing mankind; while the floral pattern brings out the message that positive thinking makes life better.
