Professor Zijian Zheng is Chair Professor of Soft Materials and Devices at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and an accomplished scholar in the field of soft electronics. Being one of the youngest Chair Professors in Hong Kong, Professor Zheng has received numerous accolades for his outstanding academic achievements, including being double elected as a Founding Member of The Hong Kong Young Academy of Sciences in 2018, and a Founding Member of The Young Member Section of The Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences in 2023, the highest academic titles in the field of science and technology in Hong Kong under the age of 45. He furthermore has an exceptional portfolio of over 200 SCI journal papers in the most impactful journals such as Science and Nature Materials.


We hope that the materials we developed and the fundamental interfacial science we have reported can benefit the field, to guide the design of future materials and devices in soft electronics.

Professor Zheng has made original contributions to the development of new materials and electronic devices that can be worn, attached on human skins, and even implanted. He has also developed state-of-the-art flexible batteries to power these electronics.

ZHENG Zijian_text_picIn addition to his outstanding academic contributions, Professor Zheng is committed to fostering innovation and technology development in Hong Kong and the globe. He serves as the Treasurer of the Hong Kong Materials Research Society, and is the Founding Editor-in-Chief of EcoMat, a flagship journal in the area of functional materials for green energy and the environment.

Last but not least, Professor Zheng has founded a high-tech startup to commercialise the flexible battery technology he developed, demonstrating his commitment to transforming his groundbreaking research into real-world applications for the betterment of society.
