Dr. Xie's academic background spans the fields of nursing and public health. She obtained her Bachelor and Master degrees from the School of Nursing of Tianjin Medical University and Peking Union Medical College (PUMC), respectively; and got a PhD degree in Public Health from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). She also received the postdoctoral training in the University of Hong Kong and CUHK successively. Before she came to Hong Kong, she worked in the Department of Nursing of the PUMC Hospital. She has been a registered nurse since 2006. 

Dr. Xie has deeply committed to conducting research in complementary and alternative therapies (e.g., Tai Chi exercise and other TCM approaches) for migraine prophylaxis; and investigating the relationship between migraine and cardiovascular/cerebrovascular diseases in women. Currently she has strong interest in using AI-assisted models/technologies to explore the migraine-CVD relationship by brain imaging analysis. Moreover, as a nursing specialist with public health training, Dr Xie has enthusiasms to conduct health education and health promotion programmes, particularly by adopting community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach, to transfer academic knowledge to practices in broad community settings. 

Dr. Xie has received several international and national academic awards such as Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award (consecutive years in 2019 and 2020) from the American Heart Association and Young Investigator Award from the China Heart Congress. She was the guest editor of the BioMed Research International, the Healthcare and the Frontiers in Psychiatry. Dr. Xie has secured more than 30 research grants with total amount of HK$ 12 million as Principal Investigator from several external competitive funds such as RGC Early Career Scheme, RGC General Research Fund, Health and Medical Research Fund, and The Chinese Medicine Development Fund; as well as HK$ 30 million as co-investigator with many external research collaborators. She has established a large Hong Kong women cohort (4200+ subjects) with unique migraine clinical features data since 2019.
