Three PolyU students were awarded The D. H. Chen Foundation Scholarship 2019/20.

They are:

The D. H. Chen Foundation Scholarship, offered to four local universities including PolyU, aims to nurture potential future leaders who will bring about social changes through educational skills, personal insight and motivation.  Each scholarship includes tuition waiver, living allowance (to be granted with proven financial needs and/or special education needs) and one-off overseas allowance.  The tenure of the scholarship is the normal duration of study of the enrolled undergraduate degree programme, subject to fulfillment of all award conditions.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship is a full scholarship aiming to identify and groom outstanding talents to become leaders who will create positive change and inspire the wider society to strive for excellence.  The scholarship covers students’ tuition fees, academic expenses and living costs for the entire normal length of study (renewal conditions apply) towards an undergraduate degree programme. 

The HKIE Scholarship 2018/2019   17 May 2019

The HKIE Scholarship Scheme aims to recognize the academic achievements of the outstanding full-time engineering undergraduate students and to identify potential engineering students and develop them into future engineers.  Student Wong Chung Hui of Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering was awarded the HKIE Scholarship 2018/19 offered by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and was presented the Scholarship at the HKIE New Members Reception on 17 May 2019.

Innovation and Technology Scholarship 2019   1 April 2019

With the sponsorship and support from the Innovation and Technology Commission of the HKSAR Government, HSBC and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, 40 PolyU students have been awarded the Innovation and Technology Scholarships since 2011. The awardees were selected on the basis of their outstanding academic performance, passion in innovation and technology, good communication skills and all-roundness. 

Four students (listed below) received these prestigious Scholarships on innovation and technology in 2019. Prof. Ben Young, Vice President (Student Affairs), and other PolyU sfaff members shared the joy with the awardees at a Presentation Ceremony held on 1 April 2019:

A maximum of $150,000 will be made available to each of the awardees, enabling them to attach in the world’s top institutes in overseas or Chinese mainland, and with a chance to experience living in an academic environment outside Hong Kong.  Each awardee will be matched with a well-known scholar as a mentee receiving precious guidance in their learning process. In addition, the Scholarship will also provide awardees with the opportunities to take internship locally and make use of what they have learned to apply to local community works. The awardees will be able to take advantage of the valuable experience gained in the coming year to bring more contributions to the future society and scientific community.

Two outstanding PolyU students were presented the prestigious Fellowship/Scholarship offered by the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund in 2018/19 on 17 March 2019. They are: 

Yau Ka Man Carmen - Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowship for Disabled Students
Sin Ka Yin - Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarship

Both were selected on the basis of their excellent academic performance and long-standing contributions to the local community.

Carmen, a first-year Ph.D student of the Department of Applied Social Sciences, has been suffering from spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and devoting herself to advocate rights of people with disabilities. She is currently a Committee Member of Community Participation & Publicity Committee of Equal Opportunities Commission and Chairperson of Association of Women with Disabilities Hong Kong. She received the South China Morning Post’s Spirit of Hong Kong Award” in 2013 and the “Regeneration Warrior’ granted by the Regeneration Society in 2017 for her inspirational story. She is currently a guest host of the radio programme “非常人物生活雜誌” in RTHK Radio 1.

Ka Yin, a second-year undergraduate student of the Interdisciplinary Division of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering, is devoted to his services through the Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps.  He has been actively involved in the leadership training courses, aviation education programme and social services to equip himself and contribute to the society.

Dr Ng Tat-lun Memorial Scholarship Presentation Ceremony 2018/19 was held on 5 Dec 2018 to honour 16 students from the eight Faculties/Schools of PolyU for their outstanding academic achievements. "Dr Ng Tat-lun Memorial Scholarship" was set up in 2013 to pay tribute to the late Deputy Council Chairman and Distinguished Alumnus Ir Dr Ng Tat-lun, for his tremendous contributions to the development of the University as well as his passion for lifelong learning.


The Ceremony was officiated by Mrs Millen Ng and Ms Irene Ng, wife and daughter of Dr Ng Tat-lun, Professor Timothy W. Tong, PolyU President and Dr Katherine Ngan Ng Yu-ying, Chairman of the PolyU Foundation. Members of the Governing Committee of the PolyU Foundation, PolyU staff members, students and parents also attended the ceremony to congratulate the scholarship recipients.

The China Life Insurance (Overseas) Company Limited offered scholarships to five full-time non-first-year undergraduate degree students from the Faculty of Business, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Health and Social Sciences in 2017/18.  A Scholarship Presentation Ceremony was held to recognize the achievements of the scholarship awardees on 9 November 2018.

Fung Scholars Gala Dinner 2018   5 October 2018

Victor and William Fung Foundation has nurtured over 300 full-time local undergraduate degree PolyU students via Fung Scholars Programme to support them to undertake exchange programme organized by PolyU at institutions outside the HKSAR since the academic year 2007/08.

To mark the success of the Fung Scholars Programme, the Foundation hosted a Gala Dinner on 5 October 2018 which was well attended by over 100 Fung Scholars.

Nurturing Compassionate Leaders for a Better Hong Kong

香港賽馬會獎學金於四月二十一日舉行的「香港賽馬會社群日」與逾二百位教育界、社福界合作夥伴,及歷屆賽馬會學人(獎學金得主)在沙田馬場聚首一堂,慶祝這個歷史時刻。

Marking the 20th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships, over 200 representatives from the Club’s tertiary education and community partners joined the 2018 Community Day Race Meeting on 21 April at Sha Tin Racecourse to celebrate this memorable milestone.

自賽馬會獎學金在一九九八年成立以來,馬會共撥款約四億港元,資助逾五百名獎學金得獎同學在八所由大學資助委員會資助的專上學府,及香港演藝學院修讀學位課程,計劃近年更擴展至研究生、職業教育及有特殊教育需要的學生。

Since establishment of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships in 1998, the Club has contributed some $400 million through its Charities Trust, supporting over 500 JC Scholars in the eight UGC-funded tertiary institutions and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. A recent expansion of the scheme further benefits graduate students, students with special educational needs, as well as students in vocational education programmes.

JC Scholars said the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships did not only recognise their efforts, but also encouraged them to do well and do good in society.

Ada Chan Ying Laam, final-year student of the Department of Applied Social Sciences was awarded the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarship for Undergraduate Students 2017/18 in March 2018.  This scholarship scheme aims at recognizing and encouraging academic achievements of full-time undergraduate students at post-secondary and tertiary levels in Hong Kong. 

Ada was also awarded the Outstanding Student Award of Faculty of Health and Social Sciences and the Outstanding Student Award of Department of Applied Social Sciences in February 2018.
