Eligibility

  • Full-time & Part-time students are both eligible for application.

  • Students studying programmes offered by College of Professional & Continuing Education (CPCE) are not eligible to apply.

Rental

$30 (one-off and non-refundable) for the period up to 18 July 2020.

Application

  1. Login Locker System (http://www.polyu.edu.hk/stars/locker).

  2. Select locker location & the row of locker, read the regulations carefully and indicate your acceptance of the regulations.

  3. Pay the rental (HK$30) within one working day (if you fail to do so, the locker you have reserved will be released for application again and you may need to re-apply.).

  4. Wait for Centre STARS’s confirmation email, which should be available in two to three working days.

  5. Check the locker number in the Locker system.

  6. Successful locker applicant should:

    - print from the locker system the page showing your personal details & the assigned locker number.

    - prepare your own padlock.

    - stick the locker number on your padlock with a label.

    - hand in the padlock and the printout with your personal details and locker number to colleagues at the reception counter of Centre STARS.

  7. You could use the locker within 3 working days after Centre STARS gives you back the padlock. No further reminder will be issued.

Termination/ Withdrawal/ Completion of Study

Early return of locker is required in case of:

- Graduation or completion of study
- Termination of study
- Deferment of study
- Withdrawal of study
- Change of Academic Programme

Users have to vacate and unlock their lockers as soon as possible but not later than one month after the above listed scenario. Failing that, Centre STARS will force open the locker(s) and dispose of items found inside.

Students who have their status changed are required to report to Centre STARS as soon as possible. Centre STARS has the authority to terminate their right to use the locker and they will be given one month to vacate their lockers. Centre STARS will force open the locker(s) and dispose of items found inside after the one-month grace period.

 

Important Reminders

Each successful applicant will be allocated with one locker.

Students should comply with regulations governing the use of lockers.

Lockers are meant for storing study related items e.g. books, notes, stationery and related academic materials.

Storage of any items that would cause or likely to cause danger or nuisance to the environment or other members of the University e.g. explosives, pets are prohibited.

Students are also advised not to store any valuable belongings such as cash, digital devices, personal identity documents, etc. in the lockers. The University will not be responsible for the security, loss nor damage of the property kept inside the lockers. Students should take full responsibility of items stored in their lockers. In case of theft, students are advised to report to the Campus Security Control Centre (Room P111).

Students must keep their lockers locked at all times. High quality steel padlocks with base of 35-40mm wide are recommended. Combination padlocks or other padlocks are not recommended for security reasons.

Lockers are not transferable. Successful applicants must be responsible for all items stored in their assigned lockers.

The lockers located inside buildings, will be subject to the opening hours of the buildings as announced by Facilities Management Office (FMO). In general, the opening hours of buildings are as follows (subject to change by FMO):
Monday – Friday: 7:00am – 11:00pm
Saturday: 7:00am – 7:00pm
Sunday & Public holidays: Closed

You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or via https://www.polyu.edu.hk/mysurvey/index.php/682294?lang=en if they have vacated their lockers for returning to Centre STARS before 18 July 2020.

Deadline for clearance

All users should vacate their lockers on or before 18 July 2020 for routine cleaning and annual maintenance.

Centre STARS reserves the right to force open any locker(s) and remove any items found inside after the deadline of 18 July 2020.

An administrative cost of $100 (subject to change) would be charged on users who fail to vacate their lockers before the deadline.

FAQs

1. How do I locate my locker?

Please note below the configuration of the locker number, for example: AB12345

The 2 letters (AB) refers to the WING/CORE/BLOCK

The first digit (1) refers to the FLOOR

The last four digits (2345) refers to the individual LOCKER NUMBER

 

2. How do I know my locker number?

You may check it out at the locker system at http://www.polyu.edu.hk/stars/locker/.

 

3. Why I cannot find my locker number after having completed the application?

The locker number will only be shown in the locker system after the payment has been confirmed. Please make sure that you have already settled the payment.

 

4. Why I find a "Centre STARS" padlock in my locker? When can I use the locker?

Upon receipt of the payment confirmation email, please print from locker system the page showing your personal details & assigned locker number. Prepare your own padlock and stick the locker number on your padlock with a label, then hand in the padlock and the printout with your personal details and locker number to the colleagues at the reception counter of Centre STARS. Our staff will then take away “Centre STARS” padlock and lock your assigned lockers with the padlock provided by you within 3 working days. You could then use the locker and no further notification would be issued. 

 

5. How come the payment status in the locker system is not updated after I have settled the payment?

The process may take several working days to complete.

 

6. Can I change my locker location?

Request for re-allocation of locker will not be entertained. In case of physical constraint or other special reason, please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and ask for special consideration.

  

7. When should I return my locker?

All locker users should return the lockers by the end of examination period of summer semester, that is, 18 July 2020, unless you have special prior approval from Centre STARS.

 

8. Can I return my locker later?

No extension would be entertained. Locker users have to vacate and unlock their lockers on or before the deadline.

 

9. What can I do if my locker is damaged?

Please come IN PERSON to the reception counter of the Centre STARS at Room QT308, 3/F (Entrance at Core T) and colleagues there will provide advice / assistance.

 

10. What can I do if I lost my locker key / my padlock is out of order?

Please come IN PERSON to the reception counter of the Centre STARS at Room QT308, 3/F (Entrance at Core T) and colleagues there will provide advice / assistance.

 

11. What can I do if my assigned locker is occupied by unauthorized user?

First, you should re-confirm your locker number. If you find the locker number is correct, please bring your padlock to the reception counter of the Centre STARS at Room QT308, 3/F (Entrance at Core T) and colleagues there will provide assistance. Please be reminded that the application should be made IN PERSON.

 

12. Why combination lock is not recommended?

Thefts are more commonly found in lockers locked by combination locks.

 

13. Should I prepare my padlock?

Locker users have to prepare their own padlock upon confirmation of the allocation of a locker. Our Office will not provide any padlock or locker key.

 

14. How to pay the locker rental?

A) ATM 
i. Approach an ATM terminal of HSBC, Hang Seng Bank or JETCO with Bill Payment service
ii. Enter your personal password to activate and follow the normal ATM process
iii. Select "Bill Payment" shown on the screen
iv. Select payment for "Universities"
v. Choose "PolyU" / "The Hong Kong Polytechnic University" 
vi. input "01"
vii. Key in the debit note number specifically for locker rental and payment amount
viii. Follow the steps shown on the screen
ix. Keep the payment slip until the confirmation of locker number.
x. The settlement process may take 2-3 working days.

B) PPS
i. Registered PPS users may call 18031 (in English) or 18033 (in Cantonese) through a tone phone or visit PPS website at www.ppshk.com for payment.
ii. PPS merchants no. of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University: 77
iii. Please register the bill first by quoting the debit note number specifically for locker rental.
iv. Keep the payment record until the confirmation of locker number.
v. The settlement process may take 2-3 working days.

C) Online banking (Bill Payment Service)
i. Login in your Online banking account and select bill payment
ii. Select payee as "PolyU" / "The Hong Kong Polytechnic University"
iii. Make sure you have input the debit note number specifically for locker rental.
iv. Keep the payment record until the confirmation of locker number.
v. The settlement process may take 2-3 working days.

 

15. What can I do if I forget to pay the locker rental by the deadline?

You will need to re-apply again in the locker system. Please remember to pay the rental before the deadline, otherwise the locker will be released for application again.
