2018 is a remarkable year for the School of Optometry at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University — we are celebrating our 40th anniversary!
Since our beginnings in 1978, our School has been committed to pursuing quality teaching and undertaking impactful research with the dedicated efforts of competent faculty members, clinical staff, and researchers. Our Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Optometry and Doctor of Health Science (Optometry) programmes as well as on-campus teaching clinic are recognized as among the best in Asia. Over the past four decades, we have nurtured over 1,300 graduates to promote and deliver high-quality vision care to the community.
Internationally known for myopia and ageing eye research, our School has made breakthroughs in controlling myopia progression and developed strategies for the prevention and treatment of age-related ocular diseases.
With a vision to raise the awareness of vision care and provide quality primary eye care services to the wider community, we established two satellite clinics in Lai King and Wong Tai Sin in 2006 and 2009, respectively. More than 30,000 additional people locally and overseas have also benefitted from our service-learning subjects and our participation in the “Vision of Love Mobile Eye Care Project” since their launch in 2014 and 2017, respectively.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff, students and alumni who have joined hands over the years to build a fine legacy for our profession. However, we are not going to rest on our laurels. As we begin another chapter in 2018, we will continue to strive to contribute on all fronts.
We sincerely look forward to your participation in our celebratory activities throughout the year and to your support for our future development.
