Title of project:
Mechanism study of neuroinflammation in animal models of human Retinitis Pigmentosa
Synopsis:
Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) is a group of neurodegenerative diseases that are caused by gene mutations with a prevalence of 1: 3000-7000. The typical characteristics of RP are the gradual death of retinal photoreceptors, leading to sequential night blindness, narrow visual field and declined visual acuity, even complete blindness. To date, treatment for RP is few and with limited effectiveness. Recently, neuroinflammation is found to contribute to retinal degeneration in RP animal models and human RP. However, the mechanisms underlying neuroinflammation is still not clear in RP. My work is to explore the mechanism and potential targets, which are related to the neuroinflammation. Hopefully, my study could lead to the development of novel therapeutic agents for RP patients.
