Title of project:
Foveal Function and Peripheral Refractive Errors in Emmetropization

This longitudinal study aims to investigate the physiological interactions between peripheral and central retinal regions as determinants of myopic progression and their respective influences on central (on-axis) refractive errors. Family history, peripheral refraction and cycloplegic refractive errors of eighty young recruited children are yearly examined for three years. A novel ERG protocol, global flash multifocal ERG, is used to investigate central and peripheral retinal bioelectrical activities in each visit. This research would help to understand how the peripheral defocus and foveal function contribute to myopic development in children and further help to predict the myopic progression.
