Centre for Gerontological Nursing

Centre for Gerontological Nursing
About CGN
Welcome to the Centre for Gerontological Nursing!
The Centre for Gerontological Nursing (CGN) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University contributes to the care of older people in the context of Hong Kong. In March 2012, the CGN became a member of the Global Ageing Research Network (GARN) of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (IAGG). Since November 2014, the Centre has been a member of the National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence (NHCGNE), the US. We are the second centre outside of the US to become a member.
The Centre for Gerontological Nursing (CGN) was established in 2012 with the generous donation from Yuen Yuen Institute (圓玄學院), extending the foundation work done by the Ageing and Health Research Group of the School of Nursing of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. CGN is the first research centre in Hong Kong led by nursing scholars and advanced nurse practitioners. We aim to build knowledge about the care of older adults and promote the use of scientific evidence to promote the quality of care to the ageing population.
Gerontological Nursing Lab.
Our Gerontological Nursing Lab opened in September 2014, located in A107. It provides a simulated environment in which students can experience age-related changes, assess the physical and psychosocial health of older people and practise skills in gerontological nursing.

Collaborations
CGN works closely with local and international partners to make a difference in the care of older people such as National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence (NHCGNE) and GLOBAL AGING RESEARCH NETWORK (GARN). CGN will continue to make substantive contributions to gerontological nursing and health care include promoting the quality of life of older people and quality care in long-term care, and understanding frailty in older age and devising intervention strategies to manage frailty.
We intend to seek partnerships and collaboration with both local and international community in establishing mechanisms for providing internal support for research so that funds are targeted at areas that are most effective; approach funding agencies to discuss funding opportunities ; nurture and recruit new blood in the team for continuous development; and develop nurse leaders and / or leaders in nursing and research.
The CGN endeavours to nurture our students, our future leaders. It is not enough to have highly capable faculty members. We also need a strong community of future nurse leaders, and we are grooming our students toward that direction.
