Biography

Dr Linda Woo received a PhD in Hospitality and Tourism Management from the University of Massachusetts (UMass), Amherst, United States, in May 2017. She also possesses a Master of Science in Hospitality Information Management from the University of Delaware, United States and a dual Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business Administration from Sogang University, South Korea. Before joining The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, she worked at the UMass as a research assistant from 2012 to 2017 and as an instructor for the Lodging Operation Management course from 2015 to 2017.

Dr Woo’s research philosophy is to bridge the gap between academic research and industrial practice. She is passionate about carrying out practical research that not only benefits business and the community but also spurs the development of further high-quality research. During her PhD program, she focused on the issues of why and how firms expand internationally as well as how the process of internationalization influences hotel companies’ performance amid economic, political and cultural challenges. Accordingly, she has developed her research interests at the intersection of internationalization, agglomeration, performance, and strategy. Her work has appeared in several leading hospitality and tourism journals, such as the International Journal of Hospitality Management, Journal of Travel Research, and Tourism Management. In addition, she received a Best Paper Award at the 2016 International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE) Conference.
