Topic: The future trend of the Hong Kong Education
Project Type: Focused Report
Hong Kong's education system is currently heavily exam-focused, known as "utilitarian education". This approach primarily measures students' learning through test scores. Traditional teaching methods used by schools and teachers encourage passive absorption of knowledge, neglecting the development of students' thinking, creativity, and practical skills. This method restricts the comprehensive growth of students and hinders their ability to apply what they've learned in real-life situations. This focus on grades often leads to a lack of motivation and interest in learning, making students see education as a burden rather than an enjoyment. The competitive environment further increases emotional stress amongst students, escalating the risk of suicide. The project aims to overcome these limitations and promote independent thinking and creativity among students. It encourages students to learn outside classrooms, explore intriguing and significant problems, and develop innovative ideas through independent thinking and problem-solving. The goal is to deepen their understanding of diverse social cultures and environments, expand their perspectives, and apply their knowledge to real-world issues.

The goal of education is not only to cultivate people with various professional abilities, but more importantly, to cultivate people who can give meaning to their lives. --- Nussbaum, M. (2017)
The modern world values holistic development, personal growth and the nurturing of local values. Traditional learning methods are no longer sufficient to cope with the future development of Hong Kong on the international stage.
Values education is a whole-person education that involves multiple levels of cognition, emotion and practice, so it cannot be taught only through traditional methods. The teaching method should be experience- and life-oriented, so that students can better feel the meaning of it.
To create an innovative education system that develops sustainable development strategies that meet contemporary needs, adapt to social changes and collaborate with various stakeholders.
