Audrey M. K. Yu
I learned from my experience in industrial design that no product can exist independently. If a product or service is to impact a wide range of social groups, its design decisions must be based on the analysis from a systematic approach and take many factors into account. Designers should develop a vision and see things at a macro level to deliver truly human-centred design.
Comprehensive multidimensional design is the focus of my future research. I want to discover more insights by paying attention to the evolution of the interaction between the users and the environment of emerging technologies. Innovative service, product design of hardware devices, wearable products and public space are the directions I want to explore during my postgraduate study. To me, the tools we use for design are not only those traditional devices but also in new media, which open up new possibilities to traditional industries.

I am also interested in studying the relationship between design and social issues, such as feminism and sustainability. After graduation, I wish to work with different social enterprises, NGOs, businesses and government agencies to offer innovative solutions to deep-seated social problems and tech-enabled designs to empower a positive future. I am confident that the School of Design will provide me with what I need to pursue my goals and develop my potential.
