Kathy C. W. Tsang
I am Kathy, and I define myself as an up-and-coming designer and a lifelong learner of different fields.
Freshman in the design field

Unlike other design background students, I am more like a new man in the design field. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in communication, a traditional literary arts subject that seems to have nothing to do with the so-called design. However, in the last two years of my undergraduate degree, I came across design, especially interaction design, which was a new field for me and triggered my interest.

Relationship between communication and design

Studying communication brought me into contact with different people and societies and equipped me with a deeper view of their relationships. But most of the time, I have been trying to find the connection between communication and design. Communication studies allowed me to identify problems and investigate complex issues. Somehow, interaction design can help me think more about how to solve problems on a realistic level. For example, if I read the news about the hearing impaired and got to know their daily life and needs, instead of writing more articles to raise awareness of or appeal to others to help them, maybe through designing plans, I can be the helper. So why am I not trying to become the changer? As a result, I came to ISD (intelligent system design), longing for more professional design skills, more leading-edge insight, for learning more cutting-edge technology which can feed back the society.

Believing in, "Stay hungry, stay foolish."

My long-term aspiration is to become a real designer, aiming to apply technology for the social good. To realize my goal, I need to stay hungry and stay foolish, which in my words, stands for staying curious about people and society, and always maintaining empathy and finding out people's real needs. Just keep learning and thinking!
