Emily W. Y. Tse
Coming from an educational background in Architecture, I have always been captivated by the relationship between urban space and digital technologies. My undergraduate thesis explored the use of locative media and oral histories in mediating spatial experience through a site-specific installation. I was particularly interested in working with installation, photography and interactive media, which propelled me into roles across diverse fields including art, graphic design, fashion and event production design after graduation. These work experiences further challenged my own conception of what architecture is, and what it can become in the digital era.

The growing use of digital technologies and mobile interfaces enabled communication anytime and anywhere. The possibility of staying connected while on the move increasingly blurred the boundaries between physical and digital spaces, and at the same time transformed the way we experience our urban environment. How is our urban space reconceptualized with the opportunities afforded by digital technologies? And how does the hybrid physical-digital context shape the way we interact with one another? These are some of the questions I hope to explore and answer through my graduate studies. After graduation, I hope to pursue a career in the interaction design field and make contributions to the emergent area of urban interaction design.
