Erika J. Ho
I am passionate about design. I believe if we can effectively connect design ideas to innovative ideas in a viable business context, we can create value not discovered before and make our lives easier and more enjoyable.

Roles and plans I devise for myself in the creative industry are three stages – which are being a manager (i.e. to contribute to the firm that employs myself), an entrepreneur (i.e. to contribute to the society where I am part of), an educator (i.e. to contribute to the next generation).

To be a contributing manager to a firm's success, I will continue to pursue my belief in striving for excellence and creating value for people. On the other hand, technological innovation has long been a source of raising productivity that increases a firm's competitiveness. By offering more choices with respect to new products and production processes, such progress not only raises the firm's value but also the potential for economic expansion and fosters human development. This is the area I will keep on contributing to in the design field.

The next stage I plan for myself is entrepreneurship – I would like to create my own business if the situation allows. As an employed person in a firm, I need to align my goal with the firm's. The good thing is a stable source of income and does not have to bear the risk of running a business. However, staying in the comfort zone for too long may see the inner desire – "try something you want and see if it works" – fades out! I like to see my vision come true – to design something valuable and contributable to society. I practised the idea in my final year project, "Discover your won green habit in a new and fun way", at PolyU Design in 2018. James Clear (2018) explained that if we want to build a new habit, we have to start with an incredibly small habit and make this first step so easy that people will hardly say no. It may take a while, but if it becomes every person's habit, it will reduce waste and make our city green and people's lives easier.

My ultimate goal is to become an educator in design – to pass what my teachers and my predecessors passed to me and my own experience to those keen on exploring what and how design can bring value to people and make people's lives easier. I believe knowledge can grow a person's ability and helps to enhance a city's overall competitiveness. I love Hong Kong and wish her to continue to prosper.
