I’m Andy Au. Having been educated in Hong Kong, the US and UK, I’m a designer with both the western and eastern cultures wired in my creative thought process. My goal as a Hong Kong local designer is to serve the creative industry here in my hometown and get the quality of Hong Kong’s designs to the top and beyond international standards. I believe in thought-processing and designing with an open mind and a broad vision, and constantly observing and gaining an understanding of how different people and cultures perceive. Digest and appreciate things will allow me to do that. I see the Design Strategies Master programme as a crucial step in my current career development: to enhance my strategic thinking, to learn to integrate design with business, technology and cultures; to explore further into branding for domestic and international markets. Upon completing this degree, I will do my best to apply further what I learn from this program in the creative industry. I am passionate to show the world that Hong Kong design can be the best, whether it is to help brand an up-and-coming Hong Kong business, building a Hong Kong branch for a multi-national franchise, or working on something to represent Hong Kong on a global stage. Not everyone will be a design superstar, but each of us can do something that can help our industry excel. With this goal in mind, I’d appreciate it if the fellowship programme would consider me one of the candidates. I’m delighted that the Fellowship scheme had chosen this Design programme as one of its beneficiaries. Whether I’ll be selected or not, I strongly believe this has been a wise decision and a move from which the Hong Kong design industry will benefit.
