Meet the Fellows
Fan Sin Tat
I am a B.Sc. graduate in Computer Science from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. I was working as a part-time programmer during my 4-year undergraduate studies. After that, I have been a Software Engineer for over three years.

When I studied at CUHK, the supervisor of my final year project was an expert in human-computer interaction (HCI). I gained the experience of conducting user research at that time. Since then, I have been interested in HCI.

Working as a Software Engineer has equipped me with hands-on experience in programming. I developed websites, mobile apps, games and web-based systems during my work. More than being a programmer, I am also glad to participate in different stages throughout the whole development process, from writing proposals and user flow design to programming and testing.

With my educational background in Computer Science and 7-year work experience in the IT industry, I have gained knowledge, skills and practical experience in this field. With these capabilities, I can confidently determine whether a design idea is feasible and how to implement it.

Driven by my enthusiasm for technology, I am keen on looking for new technology and thinking about its applications in our daily life. I believe that the use of technology should bring people a better life. Technology improves our productivity, creates different forms of entertainment and connects us with others.

On the other hand, I would like to make new technology more acceptable to the general public. Technology keeps its advancement every day. However, new technology does not mean it is suitable for everyone. Although new technology may improve our lives, the layman may have no confidence and motivation to use it, and some people may even be fearful of using technology. This hesitancy could hinder the transformation of Hong Kong into a smart city. Therefore, I believe that the popularisation of technology is an important topic. Through studying the Interaction Design (MDes) programme, I would like to learn the advanced theory of HCI and strategies of interaction design. In this way, I will be qualified to design better technology products that are friendly to different groups of users, thereby contributing to the community's future development.
