Meet the Fellows
Yolanda W. Y. Char
I have a genuine interest in creating a better world through people-centered design. Interactive interfaces are opportunities for me to affect how people relate to one another and create products that enable users to achieve their goals in the best possible way. That is why I started my journey in the interactive media industry. With my passion, I graduated with First Class honours in my Bachelor’s degree in Interactive Media from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Being accepted to the Targeted Taught Postgraduate Programmes Fellowships Scheme greatly assists me in my educational pursuit and career goals.

I raised myself after graduating from secondary school to reduce my mother’s financial burden. I have been doing several part-time jobs in the past several years. Commuting and working a six-hour shift after school was exhausting. I doubted whether doing so would be rewarded. But it turned out I learned to take everything I do seriously and put in all of my effort to complete each task. My situation was not a barrier but a launching pad to motivate.

I understand the struggle and difficulties faced by Hong Kong’s disadvantaged. I want to drive social innovations for the benefit of the underprivileged with design and technology. I have prepared myself to achieve my career goals by joining different community services and competitions. During the study for the master's degree, I will be able to extend my knowledge of Interactive Design in order to become a better expert in this field. Also, the best opportunity to create such a good connection with those people who are speaking the same language. These preparatory measures gave me the necessary experiences and education and to create amazing works or products in the future.
