Millie N. K. Chan
Throughout the 2-year journey in entrepreneurship, I have seen the importance of the relationship between design, marketing and business on both small and large scales. I believe this is more vital now due to globalisation and the ever-growing digital economy. Businesses must devote oneself to understand global cultures and values whilst upholding their own identity. Therefore International Design is crucial in grasping this area.

The emphasis on technology during my BEng, supplemented by 3-year work experience in both global and local business, allowed me to develop a refined set of personal, academic and professional goals. However, achieving these goals will be more effectively facilitated using the tools acquired through advanced education.

The world is always on the move in business transformation, technological tools and design evolution; this inspires endless paths of creative applications we have seen through all sorts of professions where market opportunities arise. I have always been fascinated by different branding strategies and tools associated with society's ongoing trend.

After completing my Bachelor's degree in Engineering, I worked in a global consulting firm, WSP, providing creative and viable engineering solutions in terms of environment, infrastructure and energy to our clients. I have soon grown an appetite and determination to fully immerse myself into the creative industry and have the flexibility on various design strategy applications.

Soon I have made a leap to co-found my first start-up company - MyBASE. Working as a branding and marketing manager for my own local business has challenged me to develop my own business by applying different technological knowledge and developing an innovative mindset. This has been advantageous to my creative career as it demands a flexible and sensitive mind. I have seen the business grow from its humble beginnings; allowing me to see the value of marketing through participation in different roles from designing a logo all the way to managing employees.

In the following year, I was fortunate to have a chance to partner with several passionate entrepreneurs and to co-found my second and third start-up company - Phocus HK and About Goodlife HK. The unremitting exploration of innovative industries has further widened my horizons in business development and management.
