Zoe S. Leung
A Hong Kong National living overseas for some time returning to Hong Kong to work and strive to support innovation and progress.
I believe Design Practices will be an invigorating experience, working with passionate people on challenging problems.

Another reason I am drawn to Design Practices is the opportunity to bring a project through the research stage to conceptualising, developing and finally completion. The challenge of executing a product to prototype can show if it has application in a real-world context, and I am excited by what opportunities that might bring.

I have learned from my experience re-training in communication design that taking a risk can pay off and that I welcome new challenges as they often lead to growth. As a study programme that encourages innovation, I believe I have the aptitude to succeed in this course. My previous chemistry experience has taught me to be analytical in my approach to research, in addition, my creative education encourages lateral thinking. I believe the combination of these two skills makes me uniquely qualified for the multi-disciplinary nature of MDes.

Through developing in the communication design field, I learned my strengths are teamwork, ideation and the problem-solving aspect of the creative process. Through industry collaboration on projects at college and internship experience, I have developed the ability to problem solve in teams and to successfully communicate my ideas both verbally and visually. I believe collaboration and discussing ideas with peers is what brings energy to a project. I think my passion and communications skills will be a valuable contribution to my peers.

The world has been experiencing industrial and technological advances, businesses are utilising design as a strategy to innovate. I truly believe innovation is more important than ever, not only from a business standpoint but from a global perspective, as our world is continuously suffering from environmental, health and social issues. I wish to utilise the MDes to define my design specialism. After the MDes experience, I wish to apply this knowledge and work for/ with businesses to create meaningful products that have the ability to make an impact, improve people's lives and disrupt business models.

As a Hong Kong National living overseas for some time, my personal goals are to return to Hong Kong, revive my Cantonese language skill and build a career. Hong Kong is very unique as a financial, business and international hub, and although Hong Kong has experienced adversity recently, I believe it is resilient and I wish to work and strive to support innovation and progress.
