Summary
The Exhibition
Design has been playing a relevant role in global innovation, bring new perspective to research field. The 2025 Design Research Impact and Global Insights Exhibition showcases design research projects from the School of Design (PolyU Design) and the School of Fashion and Textiles (PolyU SFT). The four highlighted research projects include:
Insitu Project Research Platform directed by Prof. Peter HASDELL (PolyU Design)
Insitu Project drives research-by-design through cross-disciplinary initiatives in architecture, spatial planning, and social enterprise. With 12 projects built across China and Iraq, the place-based research fosters collaborative community-driven solutions, advancing sustainable design and circular-materiality, as well as earning global recognition for impactful, innovative approaches.
Soil Trust (泥玩) by Dr Markus WERNLI(PolyU Design)
Soil Trust pioneers a collaborative framework to tackle Hong Kong’s organic waste with its regenerative fermentation method. Linking hospitality, farms, and communities, it reduces emissions and promotes regenerative practices, engaging over 20 workshops to achieve a sustainable impact
Well • Being Design Guide for Public Housing Development by Dr Aria YANG and Prof. Brian LEE (PolyU Design)
The Well-being Design Guide for Public Housing transforms Hong Kong’s public housing by implementing resident-centred design schemes in 20 estates annually. Engaging over 3,000 residents, 630 professionals and 260 government officials through research-by-design, it drives innovative policy changes that enhance community well-being and inclusivity through eight impactful design concepts.
Translating Biomechanical Research into Sports Bra Design, Empowering Athletes and Educational Outreach by Prof. Kit Lun YICK (PolyU SFT)
The Dynamic Manikin System revolutionises sports bra design with a soft-breast manikin simulating 3D human motion. Testing over 80 designs, it delivers precise biomechanical insights and advances activewear innovation.
The exhibition also features more research projects from both schools:
